One of the most underrated albums in the last 5 years is THE BLACKS HATE YOU LIKE GOLD. THE BLACKS ruled cos behind the twisted damage lied an undeniable catchiness thats usually unheard of with this type of stuff. I think maybe KARP is the only other band i can think of right now that had this kinda character. Sometime between the LP and this split 7Ó we lost THE BLACKS frontman CHAD KERR. This split serves as a tribute that RECESS is proud to share release honors along with CHEMICAL VALLEY RECORDS. CIVIC MINDED 5 keep up the pace from their last awesome record, E=CM5 (REC075), with 2 unreleased fkrs!

when i heard the test pressing of this album i thought i had a vision,not unlike what most buffoons see as a vision from god,but more nasty. yea a nasty ,nasty vision. i just got back from tour with these fools and i hafta say i didnt get sick of watching em fro like 25 days. that says alot,it would say more if you believed me and bought this. vinyl comes in limited color too!
this is the debut that put the CM5 on the map. "whats the map?" you ask? well only special people can be on it and thats all i know.

HOLY SHIT!?! The Recess Video is finally out!! 5 years in the making or
5 years delayed? whatever the case may be the long awaited recess video
is out! KidÕs got damn near close to what should be known as Òinternet
violenceÓ with every announcement of delays. Was it worth the wait? Paddy
(or lenny kravitz?!) from D4 said ÒyouÕve outdone yourselvesÓ, Blank TV
said Òthe best video ive received all year,every band is great!Ó But in
case your programed to think that this is like all the other Òlabel videosÓ
youve seen with nothing more than vomit inducing band videos (see diesel
boy) that got rejected by MTV then initialize your brain! Consider it
more of a dream /nightmare of mr. Craig Flipy with the recess ÒtalentÓ
haunting him not unlike showing up for the first day of school with nothing
but tube socks on. Flipy is well known for his under-the-underground videos
Òtime to destroyÓ and Òprime slimeÓ. Some bands that have full videos
include the grumpies, the dwarves, berzerk, toys that kill (video featuring
mike watt), beatnik termites, civic minded 5,4 letter words, F.Y.P

| "i've seen the civic minded 5 play on the side of warehouse in freezing winds. And they were fucking great. lazer reminded me of the intensity of greg ginn. then someone tripped over the lamp chord and everything went black and we drank more and people bumped into one another. i've seen the CM5 in a vegas dive bar and got threatened i could'nt take pictures unless i faxed in a request. that night,they sucked balls. they played a fucking twenty minute medley that they'd restart over and over again. they were just very bad drunks. i've seen the CM5 smash a guitar in NYC and i was joyous. the crowd got rowdy. fun,punch your friends rowdy. in other words,live is a mixed bag,depending on their sobriety and their we-hate-one-another levels of irritation. Enter this cd. fuck your first song. if anything,put it after ten minutes of blank space at the end. it's a parody of aerosmtihs "sweet emotion". jesus its painful and it's shitty/ Things pick up mightily right after that. then they do things like: fuckin' spazz,almost-kazoo vocals jumping all over themselves like little dogs having fun humping. and if you listen beyond the frenetic din-and i'm not calling anyone a pussy here-the musicianship is as inspired as it is warped and speedy. guitar lines fray and splice and stop and bunch up suddenly and make very basic song structures crackle like the front of a retard bus with the brakes locked up,after it hits a brick wall. it's funny. the CM5 are an unavoidable accident. there's a lot of screaming,like someone's in a lot of pain,which, in my book,makes for a very enjoyable record. favorite track: "kiss my black ass" Rolickin'." razorcake magazine |
