Release parties galore! April 25th 2006
Hay, Heres some bitchin' TTK news .
Our new album called "shanked!" will be out may 9th. Not only will
the copies will be available on time for this release date i might even do a
preorder thing on the Recess site on the 1st of may. Thats a first for me! Wait!
i dont have em yet so the curse might still be lingering. As usual the first
300 LP's will be on colored wax.
On May 19th we will have a record release party for Shanked at Harolds with
MIKE WATT and SWING DING AMIGOS. You will be able to get the LP or CD for for
$5 there.
We will also do a Nor Cal record release show at Gilman st on June 9th. It will
also,or mainly be THE FLESHIES record release show. Cant wait!
Another record release show?! Yea...This time it's a Recess party at The Echo
in Echo park,ca on june 18th to celebrate the 100th Recess release. That release
is F.Y.P-5 year plan LP/CD. This is mainly the demos for out last album that
i think sound pretty damn neat. TOYS THAT KILL will "cover" a few
F.Y.P songs. ha! Dont say "reunion"! Say "cover band". Anyways
this will be an all ages (bar still open though) thing starting at 5pm and ends
at 9pm. BBQ in the back patio! MIKE WATT will, again, be gracing us with his
band. Speaking of Watt, he just invited me on his 100th The Watt From Pedro
radio show (www.twfps.com) to play some Recess
stuff. Go to it and subscribe to his and Brother Matts Podcast.
We will do a short tour in july, hitting up some of our funnest places: mpls,chicago,
pix fest, pierre and total fest. The dates are posted. We will be on the slow
end of the tour mode for awhile so please try to make it out.
Also, me, jimmy and the two jacks have a new side thing going on called THE
UNDERGROUND RAILROAD TO CANDYLAND and were stoked to be playing with THE
BANANAS this friday (4/28) @ Harolds in san pedro (19th and pacific ave). Only
2 practices under out belt so get out yer hecklin' sticks! Anaheim's gonna represent
with THEE MAKEOUT PARTY and THE LIPSTICK PICKUPS! it starts @ 9 sharp.
This is also the record release party for the vinyl version of THE BANANAS first
cd-forbidden fruit (recess..96). i hope i get the records back from the plant!

hey yall. Were back from the Toys That Kill tour and it was major rad! Europe
was rad! USA was rad! Your rad! Fukn rad! Thanx lots to everyone that helped
either by putting us up, putting on a show, or going to a show! really lots!
So even though i'm chicken sans head right now its seems clear that theres alotta
people angry about the mailorder situation. Like Husker Du, I APOLOGIZE!! Pocky,
the substitute teacher, seemed to be swamped...with weed! Nah really,Pockys
rad! i guess its alot for one person to suddenly take on for two months, especially
with another job delivering chinese food to assholes and going to school (she's
majoring in "how to run a shitty record label while the owners out of town").
So i am actually taking a break from the backed up orders to type this message
to yall, so your packages are on the way. really! I am trying to throw in some
free junk whenever i can to make up for it also. Maybe i'll even throw in one
of the many half filled opened Ramen seasoning packets that Pocky left all over
my place. And! Wheres my goddamned bathroom radio! geez i love her.
Another "shit didnt go right...again!" explaination is the Modern Machines album.

from TOYS THAT KILL:Halo, were back from touring,briefly. Our west coast adventure
was great! tons of camping & frisbee... oh and good shows too! thanx lots
to Berzerk and Half-pint from Rivethead for cold chillin. We got invited to
play The Fest 3 in Gainsville,fl so
were making a tour outta it. anyone with nothing to do halloween weekend should
hop on a GD bus and get your ass down there as tons of GREAT bands are playing.
After this oct tour we plan on staying around for a few months and work on new
songs. we got alot. We have a buncha Ep's we have committed to doing,like for
DIRTNAP RECORDS * TAPES RECORDS (ian from JAPATHERS LABEL) and a buncha other
stuff like the D4 split. Nothing is concrete right now,more like Tupperware,but
i'm thinkin we might even do a new LP soon...but first things first.

Thaanx to everyone who attended any of the shows played by the Recess bands this summer! I f karma is anything you will all win your respective lotterys and then share with me. thanx lots. Anyways we just got in the Shark Pants LP,which includes the whole CD on one side and 3 new fukn rad songs on the other side. Bonus for LP lovers indeed! Also new is the Berzerk-a.e.i.j.n 7" which is pretty damm great!

the scoop: First THE BANANAS cancelled the whole thing,including the PIX fest.
Then THIS BIKE IS A PIPE BOMB cancelled the west coast part due to van trouble-age.
They WILL make the PIX fest though.
Thanx to Half-Pint from RIVETHEAD,the toys that kill will now do an extensive
Twin Cities tour on the way to the PIX Fest. The dates are up! check

...and of course the july tour with THE FLESHIES is in the works and should be posted ascrap. Oh yea DILLINGER FOUR will only be doing the midwest part. I'm so glad we had a chance to clear this all up & squash the frikken beef.

This one's got 4 unreleased songs. 2 from the CITIZEN ABORTION sessions (Brave Kids Jump & Blake St. Valentine) and 2 from the CONTROL THE SUN sessions (Brain Attracts Flies & I Am The Fly). pretty solid on some release dates here! Since my pobox was graced with the
RIVETHEAD masters last week its safe to say that January 27th 2004 will be the
new (and solid) release date for the RIVETHEAD-cheap wine of youth 12".
No, it will no longer be a 7".
As an added bonus to all my friends who have been rowdy yet patient, january
27th will also give us the release of THE CRUMBS-hold
that shit right LP/CD. If you havent heard, this release is a comp of all their
out of print and / or EPs etc. It includes the FAR OUT RECORDS 10" too!!
And as an added to bonus to the already generous enough original added bonus,
TKO RECORDS will release a brand new CRUMBS album! If i knew the words to that
New Years celebration song you'd bet they would be right here my friend.
Recess DVD? Flipy and i are working on it. Were planning some nice extras including Psychedelic commentary?! It might be out before some new video format takes the masses by their asses.
Emusic? Why are we no longer offering MP3's on EMUSIC? Because. But we will have our digital distribution working in numerous sites like MusicNet, Napster, MusicMatch, Rhapsody and AudioLunchboxvery soon. Miki, Yuki, Akko, and the No people! dude, they just do things better over there
like transportation,commercials,sound,shows, etc etc without raising their number
one fingers. they dont exaggerate how long it'll take to get to their house
and then run a red light forgetting that they have a fucked up van following
them. to a dumb american like me it seems as though they dont even know how
to bullshit nor have the ambition to learn how to bullshit. i wish that wasnt
the typical american ambition, but then again its so much easier to just blame
everything on Bush.

Delays?
Theres been a few delays in mailorder recently due to our special order sweatshirts.
i think the best solution would be to halt the special order deal of it and
just print up certain sweatshirts. so i think starting next week there will
be no more "special order sweatshirts".
those of you not ordering sweatshirts need not fear,i think our mailorder,nowadays,
is the fastest its been in awhile?

the reason why those things arent out yet is cos we have our heads up our asses.
shit you not. not just the label but the bands too! were all in this together
man! i personally dont see it as a problem,as long as it eventually comes out.
tours get longer, people quit jobs, labels run out of money, studios lose masters,
people forget deadlines etc etc. also another factor on delayed releases is
whether or not the band is still active. i try to push releases ahead of others
that have bands that are getting ready to tour and push back the non-actives.
you can either totally complain (and say mean things in your liner notes?!)
OR you can send a check to the pressing plant for me and we can get this ball
rolling. I never said Recess was a professional organization but i do hope you'll
be patient.

yes both bands are planning on touring this summer of 2003. the Termites are
planning a tour w/ The Starlits (ex Jackie Papers) July 20th-August 20th. also
jan 2004 and april thru june 2004. i'll keep ya updated. Berzerk has no solid
touring plans as of now.

The end of the world news 7" will be out no later than febuary (unless it's not?) and the Crumbs and rivethead stuff is looking more like march. Toys That Kill will record in march for an album,a split 7" picture disk w/ the fleshies, and a 12" split with D4.

Just got Back from the Toys That Kill
/ D4 tour. Everything
went way good,well everything except for the fact that we had to ditch chachi's
van in st.louis and i got scalped by some jock hicks , more on that later when
i get caught up. OK,the good news starts off with the end of the world news
7" will be out sometime in november. this is Aaron Cometbus & I FARM
rendevousing Anthony Burgess' novel into a musical of their own. fans of Pinhead
Gunpowder,as well as most other bands Aarons been in, shall be tickled by pickle
juice with this. Also in the oven is the Crumbs
odds and ends CD,well its not gonna be called "odds and ends" ,i just
meant that it was gonna be a cd and hopefully lp of the crumbs 7"s 10"
and comp tracks. Yes! the "all tangled up" 10" will be included
in this superior collection. also, raf ,of the crumbs, say's they have some
new songs in the works, hence: new LP?! Were also excited as hell to be putting
out the new Rivethead 7" (a split label release with blood
of the young records) not only are these guys good,they have the spirit
that we love at recess :no bullshit, just wanna play attitude,well if they can
get their lame equipment working. it was great to be on tour with em and this
will no doubt document what im talkin about. hopefully all the above shit will
be out in november.
now for the bad news: i just got an email saying that Matty Luv (fuck boys,hickey,etc
etc) died on saturday. me and him havent been in touch for years but it still
sent a bolt of insane feelings to my head,so i cant even imagine what the people
that were closest to him are going through. just make sure that there's no squares
at his funeral!
Also thanx to Heather for taking care of Recess while i was gone,she will be
handling a big part of the mailorder from on.

HOLY SHIT!?! The Recess Video is finally out!! 5 years in the making or 5 years
delayed? whatever the case may be the long awaited recess video is out! KidÕs
got damn near close to what should be known as Òinternet violenceÓ with every
announcement of delays. Was it worth the wait? Paddy (or lenny kravitz?!) from
D4 said ÒyouÕve outdone yourselvesÓ, Blank TV said Òthe best video ive received
all year,every band is great!Ó But in case your programed to think that this
is like all the other Òlabel videosÓ youve seen with nothing more than vomit
inducing band videos (see diesel boy) that got rejected by MTV then initialize
your brain! Consider it more of a dream /nightmare of mr. Craig Flipy with the
recess ÒtalentÓ haunting him not unlike showing up for the first day of school
with nothing but tube socks on. Flipy is well known for his under-the-underground
videos Òtime to destroyÓ and Òprime slimeÓ. Some bands that have full videos
include the grumpies, the dwarves, berzerk, toys that kill (video featuring
mike watt), beatnik termites, civic minded 5,4 letter words, F.Y.P and more!

been sent to the dupe shop and all's a go. we also have preview cdr's (playable
in dvd players and most computers-about 3 minutes) that we are inlcuding w/

THAT KILL on their 7th issues cover! we are discombobulated over this cos,in
my opinion, razorcake is one of the best punk music related fanzines being published
right now. Todd taylor and Sean carswell are true fans of a wide variety of
music and have not the time to classify themselves under any stupid genre. Just
read todd's intro for the whole issue and you will know what i mean. it should
be common sense but it's far from it nowadays,so that makes them a rare breed
in music today. Plus theyre hell of great writers to boot! you can get a copy

good news on the trinket front. all of the buttons
(badges some might call) are in stock! the more buttons on your jacket the more
you know about current affairs,everyone knows that.
recess video?! ok i mean this with the utmost compasion for animals,the recess video is finally edited. what that means is that once the artwork is done and we get a lil bit more cash (hint: buy stuff-recess stuff-nothing else) it'll finally be in your hands. we had a private viewing party here in san pedro over the holidays and people fliped for flippy. still no street date though.

just got back fom the toys that kill/civic minded 5 tour. it was disturbing
to know that the website was down for like 3 weeks,it was verisign's fault...i
hate them. anyways its back so fuck all that. thanx to all who helped us on
the road and esp to those who came to the shows.damage!
new stuff! civic minded 5 LP/CD entitled "e=cm5" is out now and it
rocks like mad!
the 2nd edition of evan cohen's " i was a murder junkie-the last days of
gg allin" is out now also with a new look and extra dittys to keep ya up
all night. and finally the san pedro comp called triskaidekaphobia is out too!
its got an unreleased toys that kill song,mike watt doing his stooges thing,jag
offs,the rolling blackouts,400 blows,the leeches,full blast and much more! as
an extra fucking crazy bonus the cover art was done by none other than raymond
pettibon...lick it up !

toys that kill will be heading out on the road again! this time were gonna hit most of the places we didnt get on the july/august tour,some places even going to again ,like asheville or chatanooga cos they rule. the dates are posted here but its not totally solid as of yet. if you see a sketchy date and know someone who books shows then get in touch please.
this just in! civic minded 5 will be joining most of the toys that kill tour!!

just got back from the TOYS THAT KILL tour,which was a blast! thanx for everyone that came out and helped us with shows. i should have some sorta diary or something on toysthatkill.com within a week or so.
also you may have noticed
the new look to some of this here recess website. i was getting annoyed by some
of the mickey moused crap esp on the front page where layers were lying on top
of each other like horny mammal's just for the sake of looking colorful. i like
crayons but i hate eye siezures. rock balls!
i took care of all the mailorders that took place while i was gone,so if you were wondering,its in the mail now.also theres some minor new mailorder info in case your interested. i also added tons more "other label" stuff so knock yourself out on that. mailorder is going to be much faster from now on! me promise!
upcoming stuff: no,the recess video aint out yet and we still have no clue when it will be. its in progress (about half edited) though! the civic minded 5 lp/cd is done being recorded,the songs are great yet no exact release date as of now. the crumbs new 7"/cd with new and old 7" should be out sometime this year. i know this all sounds shady but recess is broke. you can be a doll and order $150 worth of stuff to help out the cause ya know.
in very sad news,chad from the blacks recently passed on. everyone here in san pedro are devistated,so i cant even try to explain how tuscon is feeling. the last conversation i had with him was about how great wire's "pink flag" album was and we kept saying "pure genius" over and over. from what i knew he had tons of heart & spirit personally and thru his music. he will be missed.

a buncha new crap goin on here at recessville but first i watched the american music awards last night and realized how un-hip i was to american music. so being an outsider i decided against changing the channel and instead doing some research with myself(subject A) as the lab rat and my cat,boris (subject b),as the guinea pig. here are the notes:

january 26th will be the release date for Berzerk-this silence kills 10"/cdep and The Crumbs-out of range LP/CD. with both bands strongly outdoing theyre respective previous releases these will definitely turn noggin's of jah fools. the crumbs are on tour right now and Berzerk will be on tour in march.

well we mean it this time. mr. flipy is actually half dome editing it in his dimmly lit dungeon. we hope it will be out in march and thats actually a safe guestiment. so far civic minded 5, berzerk, the grumpies, dwarves and more are well done and look frikken crazy good. you shall be tweaked!

toys that kill played all over in december and recorded a demo in las vegas and there are plans to record for a full length in feb or early march.
civic minded 5 will also record in feb or march for theyre recess full length.
the grumpies might be playing in california in march.
beatnik termites are on hiatus as of now.
